We experience the city differently as it evolves and becomes more intelligent, developing new sensing organs. The smart city optimises our routes, manages the distribution of resources and makes life more comfortable for its citizens, but what about the emotional potential of a city?

Who measures and releases that?

The city of the future will reach out its antennas to sense imperceptible activity in its
emotional layers. It is often the rudimentary things that bring citizens together, creating
an unexpressed common understanding that we are all parts of something much
larger. The first snow. The quiet before a big storm. A heatwave in May. A set of
‘Summer Scouts’ consisting of seven very carefully positioned sensors, meticulously
observe the urban environment to report to the city’s data headquarters, confirming to
the citizens when summer has arrived in Vienna.
Come see the project yourself! It's going on an exhibition tour with "Hello Robot", starting in Weil am Rhein (Vitra Museum) in February 2017, then spending the summer at the Biennale at MAK in Vienna and ultimately going to the Design Museum of Gent, Belgium!
Our little scouts are equally excited to meet you!
